Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Summer Institute cost?
Beginning in 2023, Summer Institute will be operating on a cost recovery method. We are including all materials and lunch for you to attend the conference within your registration cost. The cost to attend the in person segment of the conference is $100 per day with a $50 discount for attending all 3 days. Attendance is no cost for the Thursday virtual workshops. If you wish to remain at Texas A&M on Thursday for the virtual workshops, a $30 fee will cover facilities and lunch.
Do I have to attend all four days of the Summer Institute?
No, but you are certainly welcome to. The first 3 days (Monday-Wednesday) are in person this year, and we are offering virtual workshops on Thursday.
What should I have available during Summer Institute?
We recommend that you bring:
- Your curiosity, passion, and a sense of humor!
- Comfortable clothing. For workshops that have outside activities, it is suggested that you have sturdy, closed toed shoes, light clothing with sleeves and long pants, sunscreen, hat, bottled water.
- Supplies including pens, pencils, paper, etc. Specific supplies needed will be emailed to you prior to your workshops.
- Your iPad, tablet or laptop, for workshop activities and to complete online evaluations.
- Zoom-capable device(s) and internet connectivity is required for participation in virtual Summer Institute.
How many days can I attend the Institute?
Daily workshops are available for each grade band. You are welcome to attend the entire 4-day Institute.
When are the workshops?
The workshops are full day and run from 9:00 AM sharp to about 4:00 pm on Monday July 17 – Thursday July 20. There is a 1 hour lunch break and a short afternoon coffee break each day. Workshops will be held in person on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and virtually via Zoom on Thursday.
What will I receive at the workshops?
Outstanding training from workshop developers, content experts (Scientists, Physicians, Engineers) and master teachers. Each workshop will include a review of content information and effective pedagogical approaches, hands-on activities, and take home, classroom ready, lesson and activity plans. The SI is accredited to provide 7 hours of CPE credits for each workshop.
Do you evaluate the Institute?
Yes. We ask all participants to evaluate the training, benefit and impact of the Summer Institute. All evaluations are anonymous, and the responses are separated from any identifying information. Evaluation surveys are online, and include:
1. Short, formative surveys at the Institute - one for each workshop you attend, and one for the Institute as a whole, and
2. A longer, summative survey - a link will be sent to you via e–mail in the Spring of 2024.
