Intro to Microcontrollers in the Middle School STEM Classroom

Interested in using microcontrollers in your middle school STEM classroom? Workshop participants will be provided with an introduction to microcontroller inputs/outputs, breadboarding and simple circuits, programming language and algorithms basics, and the use of sensors.

Program Manager, Texas A&M Engineering Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach

Pam Simmons-Brooks is a STEM educator with Texas A&M Engineering/Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) on the Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach team in Workforce Development. She has extensive experience in secondary science curriculum development; science classroom instruction in middle school, high school, and college; and STEM professional development programming for educators in national, state, and local settings.

Gabe Valdez

Associate Director, Texas A&M Engineering Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach

Gabe Valdez is the Associate Director at Spark! PK-12 Engineering Education Outreach, a division of Workforce Development at Texas A&M Engineering/Texas A&M Experiment Station (TEES) located in College Station, TX. With a background in education, he has dedicated sixteen years to teaching math, science, and engineering at the high school level, and serving as an engineering department chair for six years. Since 2009, Gabe has also been a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering Master Teacher. In this role, he has successfully conducted over 2300 hours of professional development for teachers nationwide, focusing on topics such as principles of engineering, VEX robotics, and engineering design and development.
