Cancer Focused Curriculum - Problem Based Learning (Virtual)

Problem Based Learning introduction of the concept of bringing flipped classroom and activity to bring engineering standards into the student hands. Teachers will be shown 6 samples of oncology focused PBL topics. We will bring 2 concepts into practice. How Small is small reviewing DNA to scale and having students create gel electrophorsis kits with home made products on a budget.
The second is putting teaching in the student hands by using boardgame style of play learning to explore the concepts of genetic mutations, cell cycle and DNA functions.


Casandra Gabriele

Casandra Gabriele, MS (SCIENCE EDUCATOR) graduated with a BS in Molecular & Cell Biology and a MS in STEM Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, she is the Program Support Coordinator of Research Education and LIFE Center at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. She has a combined two decades of teaching experience within urban school district teaching middle school science, high school biology and physics, as well as an Assistant Professor (Adjunct), Nursing Chemistry; Anatomy and Physiology; and Human Biology Courses at Bloomfield College. Currently, she is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating multidisciplinary training programs and continuing education programs at Rutgers; such as Decoding Cancer, BOLD, BioCONECT and Rutgers Youth Enjoy Science. Ms. Gabriele helped in development and training under-represented minority high school and teachers in oncology based programs. She is passionate about increasing diversity in the STEM fields.
